Austrian Herpetofauna Database

In the Austrian Herpetofauna Database (BioOffice 2.0) historical and recent records on the distribution of all autochthonous amphibian and reptile species in Austria are documented (actual state: about 101 000 records).

Source of records are publications as well as unpublished studies, like doctoral theses or reports (actually more than 1,600 titles evaluated), collection specimens, historical files, field investigations of the staff of the Herpetological Collection, field data provided by professional and non-professional herpetologists, and data exchanged with private and official organisations which prepare regional herpetological inventories. Localities are recorded in geographical grid units (1 minute of latitude x 1 minute of longitude), from 1996 on, additionally recorded to the nearest 100 m according to the Austrian reference square system. Supplementary data on population size and habitat characteristics are included when available.
