April 12th, 2011 marks the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space, the first of its kind and the one which kicked off the era of manned space flight. Kunsthalle Wien takes the opportunity offered by these celebrations to shine a light on the theme of space travel with a comprehensive group exhibition (involving some 51 artistic positions) that will illuminate this rich thematic field, ranging from meteorites to landing on the moon, from the fear of Martians to theories of the Big Bang, in a manner both playful and multi-facetted.
