Franz Kral
In 1889 the honorary lecturer for “bacteriology and bacteriological technique” at the imperial German technological college
in Prague, Franz Kral (1846-1911), founded the world famous “Kral Bacteriological Museum”.
Although the science of bacteriology was still in its infancy, Kral had developed an advanced technique for the production
and conservation of bacterial stems on stable culture media. As well as exchanges with other scientific institutions, he
also offered for sale cultures in test tubes for teaching purposes. Around 1900 his collection of culture smears came to
the museum.
