Interdisciplinary research

Scientists from a range of different fields are involved in research in Hallstatt. They all make an important contribution towards understanding the archaeological finds discovered at the site.

At the same time the researchers in Hallstatt are constantly faced with new challenges posed by the diversity of wood and textile finds from around Europe, the nature of salt as a perishable trading good, and many other aspects of humans’ 7000-year-old history on the shores of lake Hallstatt.

This is the reason why not only archaeologists but also experts in anthropology, chemistry, physics, wood sciences, geology, botany, parasitology and information technology carry out research at Hallstatt.
