lady jaguar

An outstanding new attraction at the NHM Vienna is a black female jaguar (Panthera onca) which lived in Schönbrunn Zoo and died of natural causes at the age of 22 years. Our team of taxidermists spent many days analyzing the body, repairing damaged sections of fur and preserving the specimen. A PU foam model used for leopards helped the team to create a replacement skeleton over which the original skin was then stretched. However, the jaguar skeleton had to be made a few centimeters longer and wider than that used for leopards in order to match the female jaguar’s proportions. This elegant big cat will now be part of the zoological collections and be placed on display for special exhibitions.
