Folksy Wanderers

Reindeer are gregarious animals and live in groups of up to about 100 animals. During their migration periods the forest reindeer mingle in huge groups - in Alaska these can consist of up to 500.000 animals. They migrate up to 5.000 kilometers each year, crossing rivers and lakes easily as they are excellent swimmers. Their fur color varies depending on the season: Now in winter they are gray and white, in summer they take on a brownish color. On display in Hall XXXVII .
