Hallstatt Science Fair 2020

06. August 2020
On Saturday, 22nd and Sunday, 23rd of August 2020, from 10 am to 5 pm Natural History Museum Vienna and Salzwelten Hallstatt invite to Hallstatt Science Fair 2020.
“Resources, crises and sustainability through the millennia” presents the research work at the NHM Vienna branch office in Hallstatt / Alte Schmiede.
Scientists of NHM Vienna and their cooperation partners present the latest results of their research on the oldest salt mine in the world. The handling of resources and crises in prehistoric times is the focus of the event. It will be shown how the prehistoric people of Hallstatt mastered their challenges extremely resilient to crises.
Learn how thousands of years old pollen proves sustainable forestry. Experience how much energy is contained in one kilogram of wood at the large brewing pot. Try your hand at making a Bronze Age garment or produce your own bast rope. Find out how supply crises can still be recognised on skeletons after 2,500 years. Experience how prehistoric mining animations are created on the tablet. Immerse yourself with us in the world of mining and find out how scientists from a wide range of disciplines explore the environment of prehistoric mining. Gain insights into the life of the Hallstatt miners more than 3,000 years ago.

The event for participating, trying out and discovering is aimed at families and interested people: see, hear, test and be amazed! Participation in the event is free!
