The Continuity of Human Spaceflight

Tuesday, 23. February 2016, 17:00 Uhr | NHM Vortrag
A lecture by William H. Gerstenmaier in English With introductory words by HR Dr. Franz Brandstätter (NHM Vienna) and Henry S. Ensher

The Continuity of Human Spaceflight refers to an uninterrupted ability to place and sustain humans in space, with a steady progression in complexity of missions from Earth-reliant, through the proving ground, and ultimately to Earthindependent exploration. In order to truly be pioneers of space, NASA, as part of the U.S. government, must continue our scientific research and technology development aboard the International Space Station and use what we learn from that microgravity test bed to enable long-duration, deep space exploration. This presentation will explain how NASA and its international and commercial partners will continue to strategically leverage the station while preparing for missions in the proving ground of deep space and beyond.
