AFTER life: Biological art and the poetics and ethics of life, death and the in-between

Sunday, 15. May 2011, 16:30 Uhr | NHM Tipp
In this lecture, Australian bioartist Svenja Kratz discusses her creative engagement within the area of cell and tissue culture and genetic engineering over a four year period at the Queensland University of Technology’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation.

The presentation will include an overview of several contemporary art projects including The Absence of Alice, The Immortalisation of Kira and Rama and The Human Skin Equivalent/Experience Project. These projects use current cell and tissue culture techniques to engage with the creative possibilities of biotechnology, and explore the ethical implications of using human and animal materials both in the context of medical research and creative arts practice. http://www.artsontheinter.net/projects
