Jeff Koons: Balloon Venus (Orange)

30. September 2015 - 13. March 2016

“The Palaeolithic would be great”, said Jeff Koons, one of the world’s most influential artists, when asked in which era he would have liked to have lived as an artist. On January 10, 2012, Koons visited the Natural History Museum Vienna and was able to view the "Venus of Willendorf" in person for the first time.
The voluptuous Austrian was an inspiration for his Balloon Venus; enthralled by her beautiful form, he created a monumental, mirror-polished stainless steel sculpture of this famous fertility figure as if she was constructed from a single balloon. We are excited to be albe to show this extraordinary sculpture, Balloon Venus (Orange), at the NHM Vienna until March 13, 2016 and thus enable a direct comparison of these two unique women.
